Social Challenge:
Small businesses, non-profits organizations, and special groups
have found it costly to have an event or topic covered by a
major or local news network. It is also difficult to have a
message or advertisement reach a target market using one media
platform.
MiD's Solution: In 2009 Hampton Roads LIVE
Network (HRL) was developed by MiD and harnessed the power of
its local multi-media news distribution platform that includes
a weekly digital newspaper called E-Paper, a locally produced
TV show in partnership with WSKY-TV
Channel 4, and a high-end niche publication that reaches
a targeted business audience via direct mail. HRL
via e-mail and mobile reporting.
The HRL digital newspaper called "E-Paper" was the
initiation of the multi-media approach. This E-Paper that
once reached 300 individuals now reaches over 12,000 local
recipients. It is distributed weekly and reports on various
national and local news topics. The E-Paper has become a local
resource for what's going on in Hampton Roads and the surrounding
areas. The E-Paper is perhaps one of the most eye-catching
e-mail and mobile news formats in the market. With a view
and concern on local nonprofit's, national and government
news is not the only news you will see on HRL's E-Paper but
a diverse and positive view exists as well. From promoting
national movie releases within Hampton Roads that included
such movie blockbusters as The
Last Airbender, Karate
Kid, INCEPTION,
and Yogi Bear
to reporting on a local clothing drive for the homeless, HRL
was reaching the local area.
HRL via publishing.
HRL's magazine is an attempt to present the area's news and
highlights in the best way possible. The HRL magazine is a
professionally developed hard copy publication that attracted
its readers because of its industry level perception unlike
most community publications. HRL believes that local news
deserves the presentation comparable to a national publication
or print piece even though the content is local by its core
because it is relevant to our society as a whole. The HRL
magazine has attracted advertisers that consisted of Smokey
Bones Bar & Fire Grill, a national restaurant chain, Optima
Health, The Hilton Garden Inn, Jillian's, doctors, and others.
HRL via television.
Since HRL launched the TV show component of the HRL network
in 2010, the Hampton Roads LIVE TV Show has covered topics
from understanding autism, food reviews, non-profit organizations
to teen abstinence. The Hampton Roads LIVE TV Show with host
Chance Wilson has also interviewed everyday people, business
executives, to nationally recognized figures that include
NBC's Today Show host Al
Roker, NASCAR driver Jeffrey
Earnhardt, NASA Astronaut Dr.
Guy Bluford, Founder of Promise Keepers International
Bill
McCartney, New York Times Best Selling author of ’The
Shack’ William
Young, Super Bowl XXII Champion Quarterback Doug
Williams, Fidel
Valdez Ramos popularly known as FVR, the 12th President
of the Philippines, to Aneesh
Chopra, Chief Technology Officer and Assistant to the
President of the United States, and others. With the Hampton
Roads LIVE TV Show being on Channel 4. HRL was able to carry
its message to COX Cable,
Verizon FiOS, Charter Cable, Time Warner Cable, Mediacom Cable,
Dish Network and HD channels. With
a combined reach to cover 800,000+ households within Hampton
Roads and several Northeastern counties of North Carolina
including the Outer Banks the HRL network shows no signs of
slowing down.
HRL is an essential element of the local Hampton Roads community.
The HRL network has contributed like few other independently
owned TV media and news companies. The HRL Network has affordably
covered and in some cases donated TV coverage, production,
and press exposure of local events and community happenings
with industry professionalism while appealing to diverse interest
groups. In most cases if it had not been for the HRL Network
many local causes, stories, and topics that affect the community
and are important to local citizens would not have made television
or received any local press. HRL often recycles a large percentage
of its ad revenue obtained by customers back into valued TV
production and mass press campaigns. A majority of HRL's TV
and press coverage is archived on its website for continued
viewing. This contributes to the long term impact and creditability
of a local issue, topic, or significant event that was highlighted
by HRL.
In June of 2010, GIECO signed on for full year of sponsorship
for the The Hampton Roads LIVE Network. |
